When it comes to catering, Free Range Chef’s mission is to offer a personalised, bespoke catering service where your expectations and needs are at the top of our list, creating a unique and memorable experience.

We are passionate about all the amazing produce New Zealand has to offer and love locally-sourced seasonal produce. We pride ourselves on using the best ingredients available, being flexible with clients’ requests and competitive on pricing. Free Range Chef was sprung from our executive chef Stephen Weeks and his desire to offer cuisine free from the normal restraints of a typical catering company. Having built a skill set from extensive experience in many countries, Stephen created Free Range Chef to showcase his unique offerings and services.

Over our 13-year journey, we have had the honour to be part of a vast array of events, in unique venues across the country. We are a full-service catering and events company providing catering, beverages, event coordination, chefs, and wait and bar staff, along with equipment for any event.

Whether you are looking for catering to create a bespoke touch to your wedding day, an intimate private chef dining experience at your house, canapés, or grazing tables to impress clients or a large party, we can cater for all occasions.

The Spencer on Byron Takapuna

Free Range Chef is the exclusive caterer at the Spencer on Byron Hotel Takapuna, where we provide catering for meetings and large conferences, weddings, 21st birthday parties etc. The Spencer ballroom is a large-scale venue comfortably hosting up to 500 people for a seated dinner, or the space can be broken down into four smaller spaces. The bar area, just outside the ballroom, is the perfect pre-function area for a cocktail event accommodating up to 150 people. Additionally, a boardroom area that seats XX has natural daylight and is perfect for hosting a small meeting. Our recent Mother’s Day high tea at the Spencer was a great success with mothers from all around the North Shore partaking in our sweet and savoury delicacies, elite teas and barista-made coffee complete with Piper Heidsieck Champagne.

Charter boat catering

If you’re looking for a luxury experience on the water, Free Range Chef has recently partnered with Savoy Charters – a premium yacht charter power catamaran that accommodates up to 50 people. A yacht charter combined with delicious cuisine is the ultimate way to enjoy the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. Until 30 November 2024 we have a special package for a three-hour charter on Savoy, including lunch from $190+gst per person (based on 30 people). Corporate catering

Elevate your next meeting or event and make your catering easy with our new corporate catering menu. Choose from a range of flavourful, healthy, and creative food to energise your team and keep them fuelled and focused. We offer an online ordering system through our website and a personalised delivery service. Choose from boardroom lunches, lunchboxes, morning and afternoon teas, wellbeing salads, canapé receptions and grazing tables, and we also cater for all dietary requirements. We have many repeat clients who have used us many times over for their end-of-year awards nights, staff thank-you events and end-of-year Christmas celebrations.

Weddings

Say I do with Free Range Chef! Our team is uber-experienced in making a bespoke occasion for your special day. We tailor-make your celebration and have the ability to bring all the services required to make your wedding day unique and one to remember, from catering to staff and equipment hire – we can do as little or as much as you want! Our stunning menus are designed to suit every taste; and we cater for all dietary requirements, from canapés at your cocktail hour, to a shared plates meal served on decadent platters to each table, buffets, a gourmet BBQ experience, mix and mingle with 'walk and fork' style dining, grazing tables, pizza, taco and paella stations. We will ensure your guests experience a variety of food and flavours and leave your wedding raving about the food!

We have catered at a number of popular venues throughout Auckland and the surrounding regions, and we are the exclusive caterer at McGrath Estate in Waitakere. From Matakana, Leigh and the surrounding areas, we’ve catered as far north as the Bay of Islands, Waiheke Island, the Coromandel area and the Waikato region. Private chef dining experience

Celebrate a special occasion with our elite private chef dining experience. You’ll receive personalised treatment coupled with VIP service that you would expect in a ‘fine dining’ establishment. Our private chef experiences cater for any exclusive event from birthday celebrations to anniversaries or a special family gathering at home. Experience a meticulously crafted three-course meal, a private chef and waiter serving, complete with bespoke plates, elite style cutlery, elegant glassware, linen napkins and a personal planner to organise your dinner party; the perfect opportunity for a mid-winter Christmas theme or any other event you have in mind.
